Day 2: Brisbane Art and History

A beautiful day started off with a sunrise view at 0430 hrs. ^^

Before coming to Australia, I have heard many people saying that one should go visit the Australia markets to look at their produce and goods that are sold on a weekly basis. Sounds good! Among the 4 of us, me and PH usually wake up early while War and WL would wake up later. So yup, 2 subgroups in a group.

This is how the market looks like in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Two rows of tents selling random fashion items and food. Kinda quiet for a 8am crowd, although you can see people strolling around for a nice Sunday walk. :D Wouldn't say the things are really cheap, but I can definitely say that the stall keepers are extremely friendly and welcome people to take a look at their products even if they do not intend to buy. I bought a small box of unsalted Macadamia nuts for 10 AU. =P

We had breakfast in the market area. I had a sausage bun while PH tried a Kangaroo meat roll. This is how it looks like! Shredded Kangaroo meat, on a nice wheat bread roll, topped with an AU flag. :D While the sausage roll was already prepared and could be served instantly, the Kangaroo meat requires some cooking time, and naturally it came out piping hot. Nice!

I took a strand from PH's roll! The taste is kinda salty, and it has a furry taste to it (dunno how to describe exactly lol). Would say the taste is a bit stronger than mutton. Not really to my taste, but PH seems to enjoy it. Yum yum. =P

A 45-minutes digestion walk after a hearty breakfast, we proceeded to visit the Milton market that is about a 45 minutes walk along the Brisbane river. That market is bigger, has more stalls and definitely attracted a larger crowd than the Botanic Gardens counterpart. We got quite a bit of stuff there, including honey, blueberries and a banana bread. =P

The banana bread is freshly baked and is available in the original flavour or an added touch (e.g. cinnamon) to it. We got the original one and I somehow got the impression that it tasted a bit like a banana cake instead. Hmm.

What a nice bridge. :D

After the first period (wait what why sound like school lol), the group gathered and went to the Queensland Science Centre and Art Gallery. The main area of the Science Centre requires a ticket to go in, so we randomly walked around the area with animals, birds, insects and rocks exhibits. Kinda interesting, especially the one with birds. Brisbane seems to have quite a number of storks / cranes around, and we could perhaps do a template matching to the exhibits. =P

This is the Art Gallery with many random paintings and solids. War wanted to visit this place. I believe he had a nice walkaround. :D The rest of us are like wandering around looking and pretending to appreciate the nice artworks. Quite a short visit though! Before we leave the museum, everyone rested for a bit while I took a large piece of paper and started writing a Korean short paragraph there. Waseh another Korean practice. WL thought I was doing some random drawing. XD

Everybody seemed to have a different opinion on what to have for lunch. The best solution? Just go to a food court. XD So this food court is in one of the malls in the Brisbane CBD area. The food prices of those stalls are not like SG $4, $5, etc. The items there are at about $9+, but has a large variety of cuisine just like in SG. Not exactly environmentally friendly though, has most stalls would serve their food in disposables. War's noodles came in a proper bowl though!

After lunch, we took a bus to the planetarium. So the bus comes once every hour (not 15 minutes as wrongly read by WL =P) to this facility located off the CBD area. The Planetarium has a corridor showing some facts of the solar system, scientific descriptions, a gift shop and a "skyview" theatre. We got ourselves a show (16 AUD). The tickets do not come in paper form, but rather they come in small chips. Chips + orange colour = carrot slices. -_- Haha lol...

3pm: The show started! The seats are damn comfortable. You get to lean back on a slanted seat and look at the curved ceiling. The air-con, the comfortable lighting... Not sure why it reminds Jeff of the MJ character in maple. XD The first half of the show consists of a documentary introducing the stars and planets. I think the country adaptation + nice seats + documentary a bit mundane resulting in me falling asleep! Ah how wasted...

The 2nd half of the show was conducted personally by the host. He talked more about how people could see the stars in Brisbane, and some mechanics towards different seasons. Quite interesting! PH fell asleep at this part. =P

4pm: Took the bus back to Queen Street Mall, and bought some stuff from the supermarket. For some reason WL was a bit high and started to crack a lot of lame jokes~ We were talking something about birds, and then WL suddenly pointed at the cluster of buildings and said there are some birds there. Look at the photo below, and see if you can identify the birds.

Jeff: Where got bird sia?
WL: (Points to the construction area) There, a flock of cranes.

Haha wtf WL? XD

Must definitely write about this ticket thing in this post. =P So at night, we went for a Ghost Tour that shares some haunting stories relating to Brisbane's history relating to prisons. But we couldn't find a place to tap out our cards. It turns out that this small scanner was located at the foot of a bridge staircase (with no gates)! Found it only after PH said he wanted to go a toilet and there were no toilets in the vicinity except the one in the subway. Sibei epic!

Ghost tour exterior. The sun sets at 6pm in Brisbane. Our tour guide is a big AU guy. He talks in a firm manner, but I found him sibei hilarious. =P After he gave out torches and requested to take a photo (proof of attendance), he went face palm.

Guide: On the count of 3, say ghost.
Group: (Immediately) Ghostttttt
Guide: I said on the count of 3... -_-

Omg I started laughing before this scary tour. War and PH kept on telling me to keep quiet so as to maintain the scary atmosphere.

Inside of the facility is really dark with no lights. Only torchlights were given. When the guide tells a story, everybody must off their torchlights. Ok la some of the stories quite interesting. Shall not spoil them here. =P We were also given opportunities to walk around the dark facility and see how previous inmates "designed" their cells. Some vulgarities here and there.

Handsome F4 leader WL <3 Come to think of it, the night wasn't really cold. Why the heck is he wearing a jacket?

Many stories were shared about the guards, their duties, unexplainable observations, etc. One of the most interesting one was the cat story. Not because the actual cat story (for the tour) was interesting, but is what happens that is very funny. :D

The guide was sharing about a past tour guide's encounter in telling the group about a cat story, when some people in the group felt a soft furry thing brushing against their legs. And of a sudden, there were some "tac tac tac" sounds that scared the shit out of everybody. So while people respect the presence of a ghost cat, everyone was concerned about the source of the "tac tac tac" sounds.

I swear our tour guide said the story with a very straight face: "It turns out that the lady was eating tic-tacs at that time, and accidentally threw it in the air when she got the feeling, leading to the tic-tacs falling on the ground."

The group was like wtf and laughed, and I was there laughing all the way from the time he ended his story to some time before we see the ghost tour gift shop... Ok seriously people, how could you not laugh at that! It's an epic fail! PH mentioned that perhaps I should write the feedback that the tour is hilarious, considering I laughed more than being scared. XD

Went back at 9+. We played Joking Hazard before going to sleep. The answers at 11pm+ were awesome while the answers at 12am were like shit. Nothing was really funny and we were just laughing at how not funny the answers were. =P

And that concludes a beautiful Day 2 with some Art and History exploration! :)
