Day 3: Koala Day
(Sidetrack: 1104 day. So many memories...)
A nice Monday morning started off with a pancakes breakfast shop found by WL before the trip. Was looking forward to this as specialized pancakes shops usually will make their own batter, which could be thicker and not so "empty". Like if you were to eat normal Mac pancakes, they would be rather thin and did not have much taste unless syrup is added.
Behold! The Pancakes Manor! Wa sia la look like some Harry Potter castle lolol. Always had the impression that pancakes shops could be bright, cosy~ Guess this one really upholds the "Manor" part. XD Not too many people at a 8.15am timing, plenty of seats to choose from.
We were actually in a small rush as we had to reach the ferry harbour by 9.30am~ Thankfully the food arrived at 8.50am, and wow it looks decent!
Looks simple but nice! Pancakes are thick, eggs are fluffy, the butter serving was rather big (tastes alright), and the syrup goes well with the pancake but not too sweet. :D The rest had some nicer some additional items such as sausages, rosti, etc. The meat tasted... Ok luh, don't think I really like the taste too much. Tried WL's rosti too, which was nice, and kinda crispy!
Ok so it IS somehow related to Harry Potter. 10 cents to Ravenclaw! =P
This ferry takes everyone to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (LPKS), we got this one through an online deal. According to the ferry guide, this is the most convenient way to the LPKS as compared to buses.
The tour guide gave everyone an intro of some of the buildings along the Brisbane river (e.g. past factories), history (e.g. flooding) and beautiful scenic spots. Fell asleep for half of the tour >.< It was too comfortable even on the plastic chairs~ The air was rather cooling, and the water current wasn't too fast.
At about 11.10am, we reached the LPKS! On many of the deal booking websites, they mentioned that there are 28 stairs and thus may be inconvenient for wheeled devices. WL and myself were a bit puzzled and praying hard that it means a flight of 28 steps and not 28 flights of staircases. Wa heng ah, it was just 1 flight of 28 steps. (Though I counted there are a bit more steps lol)
LPKS does not only have Koalas. They do have other animals too such as Kangaroos, emus, bats, lizards, etc. It seems more like a mini zoo where close to 10% of the exhibits are dedicated to Koalas. There is even a Koala Science institute!
One of the LPKS staff gave an introduction to Koalas, why they need to be preserved and some of the common death causes. Apparently domestic reasons such ask knocked down by cars / chased by dogs are very common reasons. A bit unexpected there~
Koalas sleeping. They sleep for about 20 hours a day! LPKS has quite a few of these shelters, with either 4 to 5 younger Koalas in a shelter or 1 to 2 elder ones in the same shelter.
Elderly Koala. <3
LPKS also offers a free-ranging area where people could go in and interact / feed the animals inside. The kangaroos were very quiet (and probably quite well fed).
The emus on the other hand are super active! I think it's because everyone bought the food and went straight to the kangaroos, thus the emus were wondering why nobody is giving them any food.
Although the emus look fierce and their eating looks kinda rough, it is actually not painful~ PH had a good time feeding the emus while patting their necks. When PH's palm is empty, the emus directed their attention in the brown back and helped themselves to the food. Sibei automatic.
I tried feeding an emu too, quite fun~ A 2nd emu appeared while I was feeding the 1st one, and I ended up holding a brown bag on each hand. An amazing experience. =P
The Sanctuary had a dog show that day to display the effectiveness of a dog in chasing a flock of sheep into the pen. It took quite a while, but eventually the dog succeeded. :D It would be quite funny if the situation was like this.
Staff: Now we are going to see the dog chasing the sheep.
Dog: G'Day sheeps, standby, we got work to do! You know the drill!
Sheep IC: Ok mates, on your feets up!
Sheep: Mehhhhhhhhhhh
Staff: The dog successfully chased the sheep into the pen!
Dog: Thanks mate.
Sheep IC: Meh its ok.
At 1.45pm, we left LPKS and boarded the returning ferry. :) Overall LPKS it quite a fun place to visit, if you like to see and interact with some Australia animals. :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The returning cruise was rather peaceful. Instead of a tour, the ferry catered some light countryside style Australian music to entertain the passengers. Chatted with PH, talk about life and worries while War played with his phone and WL took a short nap on the ferry. Relaxing. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing much was planned for the rest of the day. We took some rest in the accommodation facility by playing WL's cards: "The Singaporean Dream".
1104: T.T
The game is quite fun, everyone has powers representing a Singaporean entity. Got NSF, student, CEO, etc. The words on the cards are enough to make anyone laugh. =P There was a particular moment where WL had a card that mentioned the person to look in his eyes would have to give a dream. Instant Medusa. >.<
War had a card that made me hold PH's hands, then WL asked me to do jumping jacks to get a free dream. Easy peasy. =P
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Went to Queen Street mall for dinner a short walk. Shun bian buy some biscuits / find PH's items at various pharmacies.
WL wanted to eat mac~~ The fries were saltier than the SG version. I had a ham, cheese and tomato sandwich for 7 AUD. Expensive. >.<
1104: Finally can save money. Take 10 AUD from the discard pile~
Bought a couple of shirts from Uniqlo, including a GIANT bicycle shirt. [Giant is the brand, not the size] We were told that the shop is closing soon as it was something like 7.50pm~ Almost forgot shops in AU usually close early~
Night snack saves the evening! This is 4 AUD after a 50% discount at starbucks. Delicious ham and egg combination mmm :D
We finished up the Singaporean Dream game and played WL's switch all the way until midnight. Overcooked was still fun, although 4 people seem to be a bit mess when delivering orders. =P Mario kart was fun with War and PH thrashing while WL kena thrashed lolol~~
What a chill but enjoyable Day 3~! Time to move on, and also to other areas of AU~ :)
