Defauq outing

For strange and unknown reason, War kept on suggesting to go out for the past week or 2, probably he’s bored during his long offs. =/

Anyway, posting about the recent weekend outing, which was rather fun? :D

*Outing with OCT Defa!

Auspiciously late by about 20mins, which has nothing to do with girls / chio-bu [and definitely NOT “flirting / making love / doing something with chiobu at Novena -_-]. Met up with War, WL, PH and OCT Defa at Dhoby Gahut. Why DG? Blame it on the junior medics.

Tasneem: “Jeff! I few days ago went to Strictly Pancakes, damn nice sia!”
Hamizam: “Jeff, if you like pancakes so much, why don’t go Strictly Pancakes?”

Did Luqman say something about SP? Ah, whatever. That’s the reason why I chose to go Dhoby Gahut, even though me and WL have went there for quite a lot of times… Since we didn’t have a proper plan of what to do (War asked me to plan this outing during my night duty), we just stick to watching a movie. I and PH actually wanted to walk around and look at the stuff in the town area, but ah oh well. After loads of ‘Anything’, ‘Sui-bian’, ‘you all choose’, we ended up with Ted. I have no idea who suggested that, but even though it’s my 2nd time watching, I like it! =D

SP is at 44A Prinsep Street, along a row of shop houses which is 1 level down compared to the main street. The shop from the street looks like a rather cosy café. Rather bright lightings inside the shop, with a few umbrella shelters outside. It should be lunch time, as there were many people waiting for their order to arrive, and a huge crowd queuing at the doorstep! Defauq sia! There’s goes the sole purpose of going to the town area for a small outing. Oh well! T_T

The Singapore Pools HQ building is called Pomo (I think, or have I already known that?). Since the Pancakes lunch didn’t work, we walked around and ended up setting for a Gelato shop at the basement. [Pizza, subway, hotpot, other proper lunch outlets were rejected]

The lady at the shop is VERY enthusiastic to promote the shop product’s Gelato and welcomes the visitors to try the different Gelatos with a small spoon. Some are rather random, like rum and raisins, grapefruit, other unique fruit flavors (with hints of alcohol?), the rest were favorites like Hershey chocolate, Rocher chocolate… I must say that the Rocher flavor tasted like Kinder Bueno chocolate; perhaps WL had the same thinking as me. =/

The gelato shop does not simply sell gelato only, just like pizza hut does not simply sell only pizzas. It sells other various pastries and bites like pies, pastries, waffles, etc. I ordered an extra cottage pie with lime juice, apart from the waffles with Hershey chocolate gelato. The total amounted to $12.60 nett. No GST or other service charge. J

The cottage pie is simply awesome! A whole chunk of mashed potato w/o the gravy with generous fillings of mushroom and ham, topped with a layer of glazed cheese. Reminds me of the Shepherd’s pie which I made in BP, except that this pie is more fragrant and doesn’t have a very strong butter taste. The lime juice is normal, nothing special about it. $5.80 for this set, I actually don’t mind buying as it tastes really nice! =D

Belgian waffle with Hershey’s chocolate Gelato, topped with almond chips and chocolate sauce. Basically that’s an awesome double chocolate delight! The waffle is really thick, and is thus rather filling. The Gelato is ok though, it has a super concentrated chocolate taste! $6.80 for this is… all right. If you ask me, I would rather buy the cottage pie with lime juice. Perhaps this waffle can be accompanied with some halved strawberries and whipped cream! =D

The lady gives really good service! She constantly asks for our satisfaction, other services which we need, topping up of water, and tells us about the history of the 1-month odd plus shop. Apparently she took over the shop from the previous owner and added some other food to her own, since this Gelato shop had a ‘STRICTLY ICE-CREAM’ motto. How auspicious, everything with ‘STRICTLY’ can increase the value of the products.

‘STRICTLY PANCAKES’
‘STRICTLY ICE-CREAM’
‘STRICTLY COFFEE’
‘STRICTLY MEDICS’
‘STRICTLY NO ENTRY’

Haha wth la, so anyway that sort of concludes the lunch we had in that cosy little café. We all got a receipt with a green colour paper (leaf?) that should be the name card of the place. The service is seriously excellent (maybe even better than the food); someone should give the lady a prize! =D

Oh, PH passed his TP! With 8 points I think? He kept complaining about the ‘insufficient acceleration’ part, about how it should not be deducted, how the tester is stupid, how it is impossible to be penalized from that mistake and how it brought chaos and devastation to his childhood dream of getting 0 points for the test. On the other side, WL is there shouting out my ‘car door never close properly’ mistake for the whole journey to Plaza Sing. Thanks ah! Anyway congrats to PH for passing! Perhaps I can save on my transport fares for future outings with him! =D

Defa doesn’t seem to be full, so he bought Subway before proceeding up to GV to watch Ted. Watching Ted at Plaza Sing on a Saturday afternoon compared to Lot 1 on a weekday morning is just like comparing WL’s math standard and his PW idea of glass panels in the busy Thailand Floating market (Ok la bad analogy). Anyway, the movie theater is more than half-full compared to the ulu 10 or 20 ppl in Lot 1. 2nd time watching, but it’s still very funny to me! WL seemed to enjoy it more than PH, even though I expected the reverse to be true. Ah, oh well.

PH and Defa need to go home soon, not before they had a small snack / meal at Burger King. A lot of us wanted ice-cream, but somehow they had STRICTLY ‘NO-ICE-CREAM’. I bought a mustard tendergrill burger meal with the mini sundae replaced by nuggets. The burger is fantastic! It’s sweet and the chicken is super tender! Nothing interesting about the rest of the items. We rested about an hour plus while suggesting random ideas about what to do for the class outing and hear WL talking about his analysis of TY’s time on Facebook for many 24-hr periods. Very interesting. J PH left after eating his taro pie, perhaps he has a date for that night. =P

Warren suggested going to the National Library so as to borrow more comic books for killing time in camp. So off we go, while chatting with Defa about his OCT life and my anyhow station medic life. OCT seems to be training non-stop, which makes sense, since they the future 2LTs have to know what to do and how to lead the people in future. Defa being an officer is seriously appropriate, since he’s the 09S16 class manager. Ah, at least he’s a fair and reasonable guy, unlike some current officers who anyhow lead. =P When asked to describe my NS life, it’s awesome to say “To save ppl from dying, treat their injuries, and give them a longer life.” Once again I thought of the time I saw the headless person at 4.30am, and how I can describe it trivia-ly as ‘oh, the head is missing, interesting!’ Every vocation has its difficulty, its challenges, but when it comes to a particular setting, the one who knows and can command will naturally lead everybody else, regardless of the person’s rank.

“Like you go for a collapsed call, everybody has to work together to ensure a chance for the casualty to survive, you won’t simply hear the paramedic saying ‘I’m a PM! Listen to me!’ Agree right?” – Zul and his words of wisdom.

At approximately 6.45pm, we reached the beautiful National Library. Defa needs to go off to find his compass for his OCS course, the rest of us proceeded to the gallery level. War and WL seemed to have trouble with the locker password system…? Luckily it didn’t ring off. The gallery featured yet another history about war (not Warren), this time it is in a partition gallery form with no weird ships / dark caves or places. Didn’t pay any attention to the long string of words on the walls, but were rather fascinated by the touch screen panels where you can actually slide the information panels to cover the person’s face, to the extent where WL was practically spamming by dragging the panels one after another. Some books were about tea leaves, although the content suggested nothing about the leaves / history / tradition / dummies’ guide to drinking.

War’s comment about the war gallery: Atas!

Next up, we visited the usual exhibits about Chinese writings, paintings, books, some artifacts. War’s Chinese can be really described as Atas, he can read half the words! WL laughed at almost everything, esp. some figures which showed our expressions when we were in a GP class (praying for the class to end quickly). I didn’t notice the Chinese newspaper articles, they were describing about Singapore’s everyday lives in the past, which was seriously interesting. Should visit the gallery again.

War’s comment about this part of the gallery: Atas!

WL’s comment about the whole gallery: … Ah, I forgot, but he gave his valuable feedback in the feedback box provided. I can be sure Atas is not a word inside the feedback form. ^^

War took some time to browse through the comics books at B1. I borrowed a Chinese book and the classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’ play comic, did WL borrow a romance book? WL and I saw a relationship book and came across a very interesting question.

‘I caught my boyfriend watching porn, what should I do?’

Book’s suggestion: It’s ok, you can watch it with him or talk to him about it!
WL’s suggestion: Tell him to lock the door in future.
Jeff’s suggestion: Off his com and have sex with him.
War’s suggestion: … I don’t know, I never get caught / caught my brother before…

I mean seriously la, what the heck is the big deal, until you need to write to the author about it? For all you know he is waiting to be married, but before that he respects your virginity before you are married. You didn’t expect your boyfriend to have any sexual activities before marriage? Haix… Ok, that’s from a ‘FA’ person point of view! =D

Oh, in case you are wondering, Warren didn’t borrow any comic books, even though it’s his suggestion to go to the library just for the comic books. Perhaps his favorite collection is on the very top of the bookshelf. You’re asking me about the way of arrangement? Very atas indeed! =P

For the rest of the outing, we talked about different songs while loitering around Cold Storage, looking for Owl City; I mean Owl Coffee and different biscuits.

Old songs
War: OWNS! Who the heck listens to songs from the previous dynasties??
WL: Somewhat knows a bit…
Jeff: One love… Others ah… Don’t know sia… =(

K-pop!
War: Gangnam style? [The one by PSY] Nobody nobody? [He means ‘Nobody’ by Wonder Girls] Hello hello hello hello? [He means ‘Sorry Sorry’ by Super Junior]
WL: Jeff knows Korean what!
Jeff: Lolwut?

Chinese songs
War: ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY listen to Chinese songs! [YL will shout at him] Ok la, few years ago got this show about ghosts right (He means ‘Yin Cha Yang Chuo’) then got the song, yea you know which song I’m talking about rite? (He means ‘Mu Nai Yi’)
WL: Atas sia!
Jeff: Atas sia!

English pop songs
War: Bruno Mars? Is he the one who made the masturbation song? (Imagining Hafiz sharpening a powersaw, as if the circular blade isn’t deadly enough)
WL: War, if you can name half of my AL songs, you are great!
Jeff: If happy ever after did exist… I would still be holding you like this! [‘Payphone’]

(Reminded of Nat Mei’s quote: “Finally Kor’s songs are updated! If not you know hor, last time he sings ‘Sleeping Child’ type of songs de leh!’) Dafuq sia!

Who suggested going to eat Kaya Toast? We ended up sharing 1 meal set. War gets the eggs; WL gets the iced coffee while I got the French toast! Delicious! A pity there isn’t any good internet connection, or I would have played with my laptop for a while. =/

On the train, WL suggested something about having a K-box / dance skills outing in future. K-box is feasible, but definitely needs the correct people to go. Dance?? I don’t think many people really know the real stuff (the 3 songs in PJ don’t count, they look…. Nvm). WL said that he can dance (woah that’s surprising!), and so I ask how the heck he knows / when he learn.

WL: Not difficult what. You can just nod your head (nods nods), with a few other simple moves and that can be called a dance already.

Jeff: O_O!!!

<Imagines a scene in a Chem class, with Bing Han and Tiang Yun in front of the class>

Jasima: S16 how? Can do!?
WL: MUSIC!

[‘DJ got us falling in Love again’ by Usher plays through the class @ 120bpm]
0:00 – S16 makes a cool pose by looking down
0:04 – ‘Usher Usher’ Bing Han and Tiang Yun nods head every 0.5s.
0:06 – ‘Yeah man!’ S16 looks up.
0:08 – ‘So we’re back in the club’ Bing Han, Tiang Yun nod heads, the rest of the class shakes head at the rate of 120pm.
0:10 – ‘with the bodies rocking from, side to side...’ S16 shakes head side to side at 120bpm…

Ah ok, so that’s about it for the interesting Defauq outing! =D
