CNY 2013 visits and outings

The jellyfish is back! ^^ Here's wishing everybody a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year of the Anaconda~! Posting about the various visits and outings for the week, which is a really good break from working in the warehouse. :)

Day 3 (12/2)

----------

Part 1: 03 Bai Nian

As a tradition, the yearly 03 bai nian on the 3rd day of CNY is being held, and this year's at WJ's house. I wonder how long can this last, but hey traditions must be conserved right? =P

1000hrs

Met up with RJ, Kip, SY and proceeded to the condo. AH, William, Demas were already there, looking just the same as before, probably except for AH's leg injury. She is the only girl there, and it's really observable that sadly there isn't as many people visiting compared to the past few years.

Kip: "Wah, last time 03 Bai Nian got more people, unlike now everybody like not free then never come already..." Ah oh well! Settled down comfortably at WJ's house, with Demas adapting to the maximum level by treating himself to the massaging chair which has a surprisingly large number of buttons and functions. (Isn't massage just rubbing the back / shoulders or something?)

To embrace the occasion, SY wore a red shirt which Demas had analysed for the past few years that it's the same one ever since 2006. Haha SY! So much for commenting on my multi-purpose attire when you have wore that shirt for 7 years. >.<

1045hrs

Ben and ZH arrived at location, with Ben raising the question on AH's leg, and ZH turning a blind eye to it. =P

Seeing that there isn't really much to do, WJ loaded the Xbox(?) game - Kinetic Activities, and invited William to challenge his reflexes in the game. I can say that he has done a very poor job at it, as he kept hitting obstacles and missing most of the coins. SY and WJ are really awesome, and the photos (feature of the game) really showed them in cool poses when all they did were just to make the right move to get the coins. Interesting!

1130hrs

BGM: William and Demas singing various chinese songs, which seriously can't compare to YL's super manly voice. =P

Me and Kip were playing Candy Crush Saga, which the popularity seriously escalated quickly. o.o Me and Kip were playing Candy Crush Saga, which the popularity seriously escalated quickly. o.o

Most of the guys: Playing cards which I think is bridge, judging by people shouting no trumps to misjudging partners, and RJ shouting for '7 Spades' as his partner. XD After losing all 5 lives in candy crush, I sort of refreshed my memory about the game with help from SY, and hopefully I won't forget the rules next year, which I most probably will need help again. =P

Quick refreshments consisting of spring rolls and fishballs before Ben gave me a lift to CCK in the heavy rain, and that sorts of conclude a short 03 Bai Nian 2013. =)

----------

Part 2: Jeff's house visit!

~~~ *** Origin *** ~~~
WL: Nat want go your house.
Jeff: O_O Which day?
WL: 3rd day.
Jeff: Eh mei ah, you want come my house???
Nat: Yeah. :)
Jeff: Wao, go out la.
Nat: I want visit your house. =P
Jeff: (Thinking it's just WL and Nat) Ok lo.
WL: Hey guild! Who wanna visit Jeff's house!???
YL: Me!!!
~~~ *** Silence follows and nobody else replied, that's why YL went *** ~~~

1230hrs

So with this rather sad and non-enthusiastic starting, me, WL and Nat, were all late by 30 mins in the pouring rain. To liven up the cold atmosphere, Pastamania is in the house for lunch! :) Ordered my usual Al-Funghi cream base pasta with Penne as pasta choice. Nat mei ordered something, which I have forgotten what is it, while WL is deciding how wise is it to eat pizza at Pastamania just like how he eats pasta at Pizza Hut.

Random things during lunch:

1. The sabo moment when you put the uncooked display pasta with the real one and ask someone to eat it.
2. Jeff laughed way too much at WL's 'Keep Calm and Drink Coffee shirt', which actually summarises what WL does every night during his free time. =P
3. WL is back to playing maple, and plays at a slot of 12mn to 4am every morning~
4. There's a group of 4 teenagers who is just looking at 1 person eating, while the rest just waited. Such a strong bond of friendship!

Oh, Nat also bought a banana chocolate pizza for everybody to share, which I found it rather tasty! A hint of dark chocolate combined with a sweet scent of banana, along with a thin layer of pizza crust, perfect! WL said that the pizza looked disgusting and it was a rather weird combination of banana products. Ah, his carmael banana medium stack pancake remained forgotten. =/

1330hrs

It's still raining after lunch, and that is the time when WL decided not to bring an umbrella, and thus he was walking in the rain, while Nat was rolling in the deep? Going to my house via the indoors way received heavy complaints from Nat and WL, when they talked about the confusing storeys, the half ramps and the misleading staircases. I'm reminded of someone saying before about this...

"Wah, coming to Jeff's house like playing Counterstrike sia."

1415hrs

A few rounds of Monopoly deal before YL arrived shortly after. Surprisingly I still remembered some of the random rules, and won the 1st round (I didnt any rounds after that). YL was rather surprised that he's the only guild member who replied and agreed to visit. No complaints about the route, as he took the straightforward one via the stadium. =P

Monopoly was exciting, with loads of visits to jail (YL and Nat), rental collections from Nat's KFC and WL's Vagina (cough), and WL getting an unusually large number of community chest and chance cards. As for me? I'm the banker, who purposely gave out very GL domination of notes if someone passes go, like $5, $10, $20. Atas banker indeed! XD

With Nat's and WL's atas skills in monopoly, poor YL simply could not buy properties (more like suay), and thus VERY mindful of his Marvin Gardens, $24 rent. As a result, the dice decided to be mindful too by landing his horse piece on the luxury tax more often than landing on Park Place or Boardwalk. XD I kena the house fixing tax twice, thanks to Nat's curse. Someone should give her a prize if she becomes a fortune teller! In the end, WL won. That's totally expected ya? :)

1645hrs

'Sui bian' became a dish for YL, WL and Nat as they simply couldn't decide or were just too shy to order what they wanted for dinner. To make things easier, I just ordered WL's favourite dish: Chicken rice.

Orders: 1 packet of chicken rice + 3 packets of sui bian, Nat's one without beef. Whatever does that even mean! Maybe I had really taken it for granted, or it's just perhaps unexplained coincidence, nobody brought poker cards! So poor YL had to suffer that boring moment in addition to his misery of my house not having a mahjong set. =/

1745hrs

Dinner turned out to be much better than the sui bian chicken rice order, consisting of sweet and sour pork, gravy fish, youtiao with salad cream, and prawn paste chicken with no beef! XD Delicious! Talked about random nonsense during dinner, including YL's ORD date, why chicken-rice lover WL isnt eating the chicken, etc. Cheng Teng for dessert, a cool ending, and everyone surrended at the oranges stage. That's a super scrumptous dinner! ^^

Nothing much happened after that, unless you count WL criticizing goreng pisang not containing a fruit as eventful. Home sweet home, with Nat forgetting her umbrella, concluded a rather long, but fun day. :)

=============================

Day 4 (13/2)

An auspicious cloudy Wednesday morning started off with a disruption of train service between Marina Bay and Toa Payoh. WL's house is available, so we decided to have lunch, and thereafter visit for a short while.
 :) Carl's Jr original thickburger, an awesome burger which has the right taste! I still prefer the mushroom portbello burger though, the mushroom does enhance the taste~

WL offered steamboat for dinner, and thus we went to NTUC to shop for some ingredients, until WL said that he had some at home but couldn't remember the type, quantity and quality. (aka he knows nothing) The lack of knowledge is eventually made up by the awesome decision of choosing different bus routes to WL's house, and a huge factor largely depends on whether anybody is keen to buy Gong Cha. ^^

Bus route without Gong Cha: 10 mins
Bus route 243G (G for Gong Cha): 15 mins
Bus route 243W (W for WenLong - said by PH): ?? mins
Bus route 243G + Walking to WL's house: 20 mins
Walking directly to WL's house: 20 mins

So if you're a very physics person and you start to question yourself: "why on earth does WL's walking speed = bus speed? Is there any relation to the concept of displacement vs distance?" Answer: Yep! Here's a rough map of a poorly designed Jurong West, to help you visualise this concept better.

-----

A list of duration of different routes from JP to WL's house.

Stars = a cluster of obstacles, such as buildings, trees, fences, etc.
Black arrow = direct walking route from JP to WL's house (20mins)
Blue arrow = walking route when WL is drunk (more than 20mins)
Yellow arrow = How route 243G is like (20mins)

So walking displacement = bus distance. This also means that if there's a chance you would be late for work / school, you are better off walking as waiting for the bus needs at least a second, and since the duration of taking a bus = duration of walking, you'll always be earlier when you walk! ^^ That's atas Jurong West for you!

-----

Gek Poh's Gong Cha in 1 description: Cui. The number is spoilt, the waiting time is really longer than usual, until the army regular wait until pek cek. I think we got our drink earlier than him even though our ordering time is later than his. The taste is not bad though, I think it's mango green tea. PH and WL didn't buy as 1 is loyal to his brand and the other just doesn't feel like drinking. War betrayed his favourite brand, and if you asked why is mutiny involved, here's why. =P

Jeff's fav tea: Gong Cha
War's fav tea: Koi
PH's fav tea: Sharetea
WL: 3-in-1 master! Nope, I'm not talking about coffee here. :) He drinks practically everything!

Auspicious phone number of the week: 81181766. Haha no la. It's random.

~~~~~~~~~~~
It turned out that WL's house is more interesting than mine, as he has cards. ~.~ So all along, we played Bridge and Monopoly deal, with War being targeted upside down by WL, while PH is silently killing people with his awesome tactics, and me playing songs through the radio and being stuck on candy crush for many many levels. O.O
As usual, the lazy to elaborate section! More on the anyhow things which happened in the 4 hours of playing~
1. To Jeff: no trump doesn't means it's freestyle play! It just means if you don't have the suit, u lose. =/
2. Jeff's shuffling is awesome, it gives out unique cards to 1 person! =D
3. Take all the money from War!
4. 'You're my only Shorty' from Demi Lovato & Iyaz is a clubbing song!?
5. WL's bro, WenJun is very cute sia! Both physically and the way he talks. Innocent, keeps comments to himself, oh how diff from his bro! XD
WJ: Kor, mummy ask if you friends want to eat bakwa.
WL: I want! ^^ (Btw WL didn't offer us, even though WJ mentioned "your friends")
Jeff, War, PH: -_-
WJ: Kor, the orange spoil, how ah? (Sincerely asking for help)
WL: THROW AWAY LA! You ()#@()#$*) pot! (Vulgar siol.)
Jeff: Vulgar siol! Give WL eat la! XD
PH, War: O_O
WJ: (Ok look...)
Jeff's blog: Oi! Can don't anyhow put fake stuff in or not!?
-----------------------------------
Despite these anyhow moments, we can experience true brotherly love by this heartwarming message.
I will leave you to find out whether this is WL or WJ's handwriting. Awesome right? :)
-------------------------------
Dinner! Steamboat with no BBQ facilities. :P
What did War put in: random balls.
What did Jeff put in: Sausage, pork balls, vege.
What did WL put in: Fish
What did PH put in: Order War, Jeff and WL to put for him.
Ok la, the ingredients are not bad, and at least we didn't waste food (cough War). I ate mainly the sausages and fishballs, which are standard items in any steamboat. The soup taste somehow like chicken tonic soup, and er... yea, that's about it for the food. No comments on the rice, does anybody eat rice for steamboat? War complained that the sausage is small when it's actually being cut in half, haix.
WL's mother kindly commented that we ate like ants, which actually is quite true as we were shy (>.<) to eat first and they had guests later on, so it's not very nice to gobble up everything right? The most interesting thing in the kitchen should be the fridge! Lots of inspirational quotes, posters, random CCK GRC notices.
Million-dollar statement from PH, when we were talking about height or something:
PH: If i take off my clothes in my room i will hit the fan. ^^
WL: Why not change in the toiilet!?
Jeff: O_O
War: Heh heh, NEVER  a problem to me.
(WL and Jeff like this)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Before ending the section on the day's activities, wanna share some interesting features in WL's room. =P

1. Angry bird bedsheets! So cute sia the bros, angry birds just shoot out and kill things!

2. Lots of tissue paper in the dustbin just beside WL's bed. Day usage: 35%, Night usage (when WJ is awake) 20%, (when WJ is sleeping soundly) 40%.

3. There's a jar full of $1 coins, and only has $108 instead of the original $120 WL described. Me and PH contributed to an additional $3! :D

4. I think it's War who questioned how come the beds suspiciously looked like a double decker bed. Answer: It's actually a double decker bed, but they seperated it as it would be too squeezy on the top deck. So after installing the double decker bed, they use screwdrivers to remove the screws and dismantle by themselves. o.o (Why can't they just tell the person not to fix it... o.o)

5. WL's songs genres! Very nice handwriting. =)

That's about all for the day at WL's house! ^^

NG Act: The sly oranges!

War and PH forgot to bring oranges, and nobody reminded / bai nian when WL's mother handed us red packets. Until before we were about to step out of the house, she asked all of us: "you all bring oranges and put over here right? (Points to a stack of oranges)"

PH: O_O
War: O.O!!!
Jeff: Ah yea, but I didn't put there. Wayang to find oranges, and pretend to look busy...
WL's mother: Ok la, got bring good already. :)
Jeff: Yea, these kind of things we won't forget de. =P
PH, War: (guilty looks blend into the darkness of the night sky)

You all atas siol! :D

Day 5 (14/2)

An auspicious Valentine's Day started off with a super heavy rain that lasted for whole day, that is probably due to the large amount of tears flowing through countless cheeks when a large number of breakups are initiated, or the guys singing "Say you're just a friend" by Austin Mahone [with no understanding of the lyrics] to their gf. =P

With that, destroys the ultimate plan for the day with JM: Swimming. =(

Well, it isn't that bad after all when we realised that the opening hours for the swimming complex is rather weird, and the swimming pool opens at 2.30pm on thursdays while being closed on tuesdays. Since there isn't much to do, JM visited my house for the whole morning and we talked about random nonsense~ Mostly on his awesome operation and life in school. =D

After 2.30pm, I went over to his house to sample some of his cooking. (Apparently there's a lot of things which he couldn't eat) A pity I didn't get to try out the takoyaki maker, or else it would be rather interesting to see what kind of flavours can one make with flour and other nonsense. :) JM cooked a rather delicious soup, consisting of carrots, tomatoes, corn, potatoes, and pork meatballs. Nice sweet taste, and the meatball is not too dry (JM made them out of minced meat), so that's rather great by itself! ^^

Mostly played candy crush and surfing JM's FB to kill time. His acc is not as interesting as WL (yea i wonder why), but I helped him play candy crush, and at the same time finally cleared L213 which I have been stuck at for almost the 1st few days of CNY! ^^ That's about all for JM's visit~!

--

Day 7 (16/2)

Another casual Saturday outing which everybody finally remembered to ask PH, which in the end PH himself didn't want to come. =/ So yep, left with another classic outing with War and WL, this time at Plaza Sing~! =D Somehow there were quite a lot of restrictions on the number of places as WL is not interested to go POMO, War is not interested to go anywhere other than Plaza Sing, so we stayed there for the entire evening, and in my opinion, a very slack session. =P

So the awesome outing started off with WL tricking War about the time (is he trying to copy me!?), but sorta failed when War realised that me and PH didnt 'know' that the time is being changed to 2.30pm~ Bought the movie tickets afterwards, Stephen Chow's version of Journey to the west, Demon Slayer story. Sounds interesting at that point of time, or rather nobody had any idea of what to watch. =/

A late lunch at Kazokutei, a Japanese restaurant which presented itself with a rather bright and beautiful appearance, cosy sofas, good lighting and it's not really crowded on a Saturday afternoon. The variety of food is not as large as I thought, but at least the displayed food photos looked rather appetizing. After deciding, I got myself a chicky omu rice (egg rice with chicken cutlet) and a refillable cold tea.

PH's absence somehow caused a bit of inconvenience and language barrier as the menu consisted of some words which had no english translation, and thus the 3 of us didn't understand some of the menu items.

1. Wth is a katsu? Is it chicken? or pork? or cutlet? Apparently War saw the term, but didn't quite understand it, and in the end all our guesses were being named in English in other food items.
2. Omurice, a classic egg Pokemon.
3. The beautiful word 'Nabe', which means pot, has its artistic name tarnished by War's constant bombing of Nabei nabei~ (machine gun style: NABEINABEI)

Sorry sorry sorry sorry, omu omu omu omu, katsu katsu katsu katsu, nabei nabei nabei bay-beh!

The trend of filing in the orders on the menu and passing on to the waiters seemed to be getting popular, and I feel it's a really good method as there would be no confusion of orders, and the waiters do not have to keep on repeating: "sorry, your choice of sauce please?" Well, that is useful, if not for the broken pencil, and that's when my trusty blue pen comes in! ^^ It's good to have backup stationeries in your bag ya? :) War and WL were speculating about what would the staff thought when they asked themselves: "eh, how come got blue pencil de ah?"

Answer: Blue colour pencil.

While noming away my omu rice with chicken cutlet, tartar sauce, fries, 1 piece of brocoli and tomato, with a bowl of minestrone soup to go along, we talked nonsense and also tried to appreciate War's type of songs (700+ in total). Oh wait, it's me trying to appreciate his kind of songs while WL stared. WL's and War's choice of songs are about the same, rock, noisy, screamos, and something that would give you a rude awakening if you ever put one of the songs as your alarm. Nevertheless, why not try to appreciate it, and pray hard you would never listen to them again. =D

-------------

Noisy songs - 1/10

Most of them! Skipped at the first few seconds of the song.

-------------

Heard before on the radio - 3/10

Chevy thunder, chevy chevy thunder! I don't like the voice for strange reasons. WL is surprised that this was played on the radio, and War is much more surprised that any of his songs would be even played. XD

Another one is Monsters and Men: Little Talks, which I think Heineken used for the 2013 Laneway Festival advertising. That's about all, I think I may have missed out 1 or 2 more (vampire weekend), but hey not many ya? =P

----------------------

Other songs which are not bad! - 6/10 and better.

Bands like Yellowcard, Bowling for Soup! Not many of these bands' recent years songs, since War has never even heard of Awakening or Always Summer, but hey at least there's Ocean Avenue! ^^ What else, oh, he has another version of 'Wish you were here' by Pink Floyd, which I didnt like it. So me, WL, and War each has a favourite version of wish you were here, just like bubbletea! XD

Jeff: WYWH by Cody Simpson.
WL: WYWH by Avril.
War: WYWH by Pink Floyd.
PH: WYWH by ...???

PH go get your favourite WYWH singer! Oh, much to my surprise, I actually took a song from War (totally unexpected), and actually enjoyed it! So here's this video for sharing, by this awesome artist: Samsung!

--

Nice song right! ^^ Check out their latest hits if they ever made an album! Imagine if this song comes out in the top 20 countdown! =P War says that my favourite type of songs would be the soft, gentle, serenades. Someone should give him a prize for guessing rather accurately! (A smack given to those who say my favourite is clubbing / hopeless records)

~~~~~
Rumour has it that Bing Han is now officially called PERCH, and doesn't recognise that all-thumbdrive name anymore. If that's rather true, WL's cat should be renamed Whiskey (who the hell said this!?). Everything with W. XD
With that, late lunch ended into dinnertime, approximating to about $13 for my plate of food and many many cups of cold tea. ^^ Worth it? Not bad!
----------------------------------
Other things before dinner which I'm lazy to elaborate on it (standard section)
1. War called Song Cho (kitchenware) as Gong Cha.
2. Gong Cha's aloe vera grape tea is just... normal... Didn't really like it.
3. Jeff walked in to a phone shop and turned the music up! I've got the moves like Jagger! DJ Choi, as Razif and WL would call it. XD [It sounds pretty cool actually]
4. Carrefour is being replaced by Cold Storage, and it is a much much smaller supermarket now.
5. The Deadpool figure is cool!
6. You know you've been playing too much candy crush if you think this would explode when matched - The wrapped candy!
SUGAR CRUSH~! Says the person who has been stuck on L241 for quite some time. We got this candy while randomly walking in, apparently the shopkeeper didnt get my hint when I said: "oh the packet which I got 2 months ago isn't finished...". He still say can eat very fast, wah basket sia.
~~~~~

- Movie: Stephen chow's journey to the west

Overall rating by me and War: A FREAKIN' STRANGE MOVIE!

Even though it's better than Cabin in the woods, Avatar, (life of Pi?), I seriously don't get the movie until at the middle when the pig is being captured. It's only until the end of the movie which I realised, oh the fish is supposed to be San Za, and the messy hair disciple is supposed to be the monk (how come i didn't realise his naggy and wishy-washy manners), whose hair is being cut off my the monkey.

Other than that, a Stephen Chow movie is not bad! Has the funny elements and definitely entertaining enough to watch. Esp. when the epic boss comes out: The digital Buddha. :)

~~~
We walked around in Challenger, and proceeded to Burger King for a night snack (Fish burger for me) while WL kept calm and drank coffee. Just at that time, my earpiece decided to retire just as I was playing an ATL song. Perhaps my earpiece just didnt like War's and WL's songs and did this to me, ah oh well, goodbye earpiece. :( Should get a new one soon!
The journey on the way home is a rather quick one, as we talked about life in PJ, the fun times, the times when we mugged (yea rite) and still didnt learn anything, the geog lessons which we learnt almost nothing, the parts when OCC said that War is very good at trick to score in exams. (More info, visit WL's blog). ^^
Reason: I am officially a relief teacher under the READ scheme! Cheers! So it's great to think back and relieve the good times right? =P On that happy note, a fun, relaxing Saturday ended into the late night for clubbers. =)
=============================
*I realised that outings involving WL are very fun, probably due to his overwhelming randomness*
