Pool outing

The last time I played pool should be the time with Nat Mei and Eugene~! After the time when we missed the bus stop and ended up at MacRitchie Reservoir, it’s time to play back that session and do what we have to do! ^^

Do what we have to do; lol sounds a bit anyhow sia! Anyway, posting about the pool outing with Tean and JM, and also other random funny happenings in station. J

Pool outing!

To remind myself again, the pool place is at Hougang Plaza, and is just a few minutes’ walk away from Hougang station. The food court in Hougang Mall had a whole lot of Chinese words, dialect rhymes and other interesting words / phrases. The food is somewhat the same as other food courts, thus I ordered the Red Wine Chicken and a bowl of Cheng Ting. If I were to give Beach Road’s RWC a perfect score, perhaps the one in the food court would be 6 / 10. The soup seems to have a much higher content of vinegar, not as sweet, and the chicken is definitely not as tender. Since the price is the same, is definitely not as worth as the authentic ones. =/ after lunch, we walked around for a bit, before proceeding to Hougang Plaza in the wet weather.

Compared to the night time, the afternoon is very much quiet with less than 5 tables being occupied (combining both pool and snooker)? The songs they played do not seem to be as nice as the past, maybe the songs are being chosen due to the nature of the people playing? People playing in the afternoon -> those who have nothing to do, people playing in the night -> nightlife people! XD

Perhaps JM and Tean do not really play as well as Nat Mei and Eugene, or perhaps I was better at playing in the afternoon compared to the night, the game seemed to be smoother and at least I didn’t miss all the way… Not without JM’s and Tean’s guides / teachings / theories though!

--------------------

Tean’s theory: “You just visualize a foxy (?) is like an extension of a white ball, then you can shoot with both balls inside.” [Yep I know it sounds very wrong, JM likes it though!]

JM’s theory: “When in doubt, just shoot as hard as possible! This would increase the chances of your white ball touching / shooting in a ball, preventing a foul.” [Er… ok?]

------------------
Apparently, pool has a rule that you must declare every single move you make, every single ball you would want to shoot in, and every single hole you would want the ball to go in, bounce the ball at least 1, etc. Didn’t follow the few strict rules throughout the few games except for the ‘8’ ball. With Tean’s guidance and different strategies, I finally managed to escape the 0 score curse!! ^^ The pool help stick is awesome! Someone should give the inventor a prize. =P

If you ask me, I would still prefer bowling over pool. At least for bowling, the way you throw the 1st ball of the frame is independent of other frames, so you still can start again. For pool, the ball you want can be stuck at the awkward position for almost the whole game, so without strategy, you would be fouling all over the place. Another point is that it’s VERY easy to foul in pool! Never hit the ball la, corners la, wrong holes, etc. I lost a game by shooting the ‘8’ ball in the wrong hole (I didn’t even expect I would shoot that ball into a hole la), unlike bowling where it is just a gutter score. =P

For 2 hours in the afternoon, each person paid about $6. Perhaps it’s cheaper in the afternoon? Tean complained about the table surface being rather rough, and suggested to go back to Bukit Timah and play for future Pool playing. For $6, aiya ok la. Worth it! =P

Next up, we proceeded to Farrer Park for makan since JM wanted to visit Mustafa for random window shopping. Whenever I go to Worker’s Dorm @ Admiralty Road West, I feel that there are seriously tons of bayaks in this confined area. After visiting Mustafa on a weekend evening, worker’s dorm is nothing. The crowd is really awesome sia! Tean wanted to have dinner before the actual dinner time, so we went to an ulu street with many authentic restaurants. After walking for a while, we settled for an Indian Chinese restaurant with not many people inside.

A layout of tables by the side of the air-conditioned restaurant, with round and rectangular wood colored tables. In the middle of the stretch of restaurants lies a long table of buffet trays. JM said that those were for Briyani buffets in the night, so since we were rather early, that was definitely not for us.

The menu dishes look very different from the ones outside. Whenever people think of Indian-Singaporean style cuisines, it would be Indian Rojak, Roti Prata, different types of curry, roti John, aka the food found in Al-Azhar. Over here, things are totally different. There’s no roti prata, no roti John. The closest item found would be Naans. The rest of the menu includes some different briyanis, some Indian style vegetables, meat (butter chicken, mutton, etc.), milkshakes, and juice. The menu included a special section which seems to be a fusion of the Northern Indian-Chinese cuisines like Ee-mian, yang chow fried rice, other Chinese rice / noodles you would see in a coffee shop seafood stall.  Very interesting, but none of us ordered that. =/

JM ordered a set meal which included many small circular trays of food which included different sauces, vegetables, yoghurt, curry, etc. Is there any meat? Besides the trays, there were rice, naan, Indian, keropok, and a strange glass of white liquid which I didn’t dare to try. That is a value meal which cost about $9. It comes in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Luckily I didn’t order this ‘sampler’ dish, since after trying a bit of everything from JM’s meal, there were more than half the dishes which I didn’t like it. =/

Tean ordered a chicken bryiani. I can see that the rice is rather fragrant, and definitely has a certain standard. The chicken is not bad! The dish comes with half a hard-boiled egg, so it makes a pretty good classic dish. =)

I ordered mushroom mutter, cheese naan, and a glass of banana milkshake. This totaled to be $15.40 (before the 10% service charge). This is definitely better than paying $25.70 for a chicken burger with lemonade. =/

Mushroom mutter

Description: Lots of mushroom served in a very delicious sauce.
The actual dish: Seriously lots of mushroom and peas in curry sauce! Is there any onions? I felt that the dish was rather normal. At least they go well together and don’t taste weird. Hmm, a pity there was a lot of peas inside, or else I would have enjoyed the dish more! JM and Tean said that this MM dish is simply delicious, and would not hesitate to order again for themselves.

Cheese Naan

The cheese naan is great! It is crispy, fragrant, and the serving portion is definitely enough. ^^ I ordered this simply to substitute the rice to go with the mushroom mutter, but in the end failed the sole purpose since I ate this separately. Perhaps my favorite dish among all the things I have tried in the restaurant. It costs $3.50 without the service charge, and has lots more varieties of Naan other than cheese. If I were to visit again, I would definitely try the other types!

Banana milkshake

A very concentrated drink! Compared to Mac’s regular milkshakes, this banana milkshake has higher milk content, you can really eat the bananas, and somehow it tastes much more real than Mac’s one. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s not cold, and this sorts of make me feel a bit uncomfortable, thinking that the milk is at a regular temperature… Yea I know that milk can be drank at room temperature, but I don’t like. =P

The milkshake is rather expensive, I won’t buy it again! Experience sake only luh.

For some reason, Tean felt uncomfortable about the idea of shopping at Mustafa, so we abandoned that plan (the main purpose of coming to Farrer Park) and went to City Square Mall for a walk. Memories of Metro SIF came flooding back to us as we talked how stingy the people were, how cui the balloons were made, how Interact made Tean served much more extra hours than usual (I thought he liked it?). Suddenly reminded of a customer buying my cui dog for $10. J  How heartwarming could that be? =P

We walked around for a bit and bought 1 egglet snack before going to the Italian restaurant for a drink. Not many people, so we got a seat which is the nearest to the drinks counter. Nothing really interesting happened, we just sat down and drink, talked about life, chat, played with JM’s iPhone, transferred songs to my com, looked at Tean showing some random game website and talking about DEF / ATT points…

Tean ordered a plate of ham pasta; I ordered a plate of sausage with wedges while JM got himself baked rice with cheese and some random nonsense. I can say that the quality of the food has improved! Since the price of the food remained relatively the same (still cheap!), I should visit this place more often! Did Warren visit before? Should ask him to go and tell him about the major disadvantage (no mountain dew).

The sausages are really awesome! Imagine if it’s during a rainy night duty, and there are 2 big and warm cheese sausages with herbs to satisfy my hunger. This is life! ^^

JM complained (yet again) about his bad driving experiences, the confusion between gear and speed, the knowledge of clutch control, the desperation of surviving circuits. Hope the rest of the lessons goes well for him… With this auspicious note, concludes the outing. =P

Random happenings in station!

People always say there for every new medic or paramedic in station, there would be a curse. I remembered Zul saying that his curse was the collapse curse, which was rather evident as his 1st duty had a collapse case; he also went for double collapses, traumatic collapses, collapse for every duty for blocks, etc… After his ORD, he conveniently passed his curse to me, thanks ah!

20th collapse: Disastrous LUCAS collapse at 4am (PM Haz)
21st collapse: Woodlands factory collapse (PM Haz)
22nd collapse: Void deck collapse (PM Haz)
23rd collapse: Worker’s Dorm collapse (PM Rahul)

Imagine having a collapse call for almost every duty, how fun is that! To add to the excitement, most of the places are in public places which everybody can see (and maybe even take a video). If Zul is reading this, he would be laughing. Haix. =/

After working for a lot of night blocks, I am once again reminded of how hateful day duties are. The high number of calls, the large rate of activities, the time when almost everybody is awake. Still prefer night duties! However, with many more people, the number of nonsense you see during a duty is also increased. Shall share 2 cases among all the rubbish~ Enjoy!

Act 1, scene 1!

Setting: It’s another bright and beautiful late Friday morning, when some people decided to take a lazy walk at Northpoint with a weekend mood. J

Significant characters involved:

Patient
Patient’s friend (Let’s call her Lady)
Assistant building manager (ABM)
PM Hazlina

Lady: Oh, the ambulance crew is finally here. Thank you so much for coming to help, I can’t appreciate enough. This is my friend, she had a fall just now, and she is in so much pain, is it ok if you do a check for her.

PM: Ok, hmm, ma’am are you ok? Did you lose consciousness? (All the Secondary assessment questions)

Patient: Actually I’m fine, just feel a bit of pain on my hand, actually I don’t even need the ambulance, my friend insisted on calling one. It’s just a simple slip and fall. Thank you very much. J

Lady: Yeah! She fell down like so suddenly! I must say that the floor is very slippery! The design and maintenance of this building is very poor! The building manager must do something about it! Where’s the building manager!?

Act 1, scene 2!

(The assistant building manager arrives)

Lady: Oh, so you are the building manager?

ABM: Er ma’am, I’m not, the building manager is in a meeting.

Lady: Oh? So he is in a meeting??? (With some random ang-moh slang) Right, let me tell you, the maintenance of this building is very poor! As you can see, the floor here is very slippery! My friend here, slipped and fell while walking on the floor, and look, she is wearing flats! She could have been very badly injured because of the floor, it was lucky that the ambulance crew arrived and treated her injury!

PM: Er… She would naturally feel the pain because of the impact, but it would definitely not be a dislocation or fracture as she still had sensation on her hands and could still move.

Lady: Yea, it was good of you guys to come and helped her, or she would have suffered a major injury! The security here couldn’t do anything about it, not even an ice pack to help her for her hand! I must complain about this incident! Seriously, luckily there is an efficient paramedic team to help my friend, or else something bad would have happened!

[Security, ABM, PM, Jeff, Kane]: ………

Patient: (Thinking: Lolwut?)

Jeff’s thoughts: Yea, she almost died by slipping and falling on the floor! But then again, one does not simply die from slipping and falling on the floor. Seriously, it’s just a fall, and since she didn’t have any seriously injury or lost consciousness, why the big fuss? Wearing flats some more, must well don’t wear sia! The best part, it’s her friend complaining, I don’t remember hearing the patient saying anything else. =P

Act 2, scene 1!

Setting: It’s a rainy afternoon, and people decided to treat their vehicles as bumper cars along Yishun Ave 1, causing an RTA.

Significant characters involved:

Woman
PM Haz
Jeff!
Kane the Kilat!

PM: Jeff, get her particulars, and ask her if she wants to go to the hospital.

(Kane holds an umbrella for the woman while Jeff takes the BP)

Jeff:  Eh? Why the BP a bit high sia. Ma’am, do you have hypertension?

Woman: Er… No? Why? Is my BP high?

Jeff: Well, it shows you have a high BP, but I will take again as there may be an inaccuracy in the reading due to the height level.

(After a while, a more reasonable BP level is shown, although it’s still slightly high)

Woman: So how is my BP?

Jeff: Well, it’s a little bit high, but it should be fine. Do you want to come to the hospital with us?

Woman: Nah, I think it’s ok. I knew my BP is high! Haix. So right now, what will happen to my car? Am I supposed to call the contractor or are you going to call one for me?

Jeff: Well, I am not so sure, as…

Woman: Well, I can’t possibly leave the car in the middle of the road!? Something has to be done right?

Jeff (slightly irritated): Ma’am, I am from the ambulance and our main priority is to make sure that your health and condition is stable. Anything about the accident, insurance claims, how you are going to settle your car has to be discussed with the police to have the best possible arrangements.

Woman: Really ah? Oh I see.

Jeff:   -_- (Thinking: like that also can sia)
Kane: (Thinking: Lol haha)

The awesome rubbish people can say. =/

Oh, 124th Medics are finally in station! Welcome Azman and Hidayat to R1 / R4. =D Apparently Hidayat is Zul’s primary schoolmate, so perhaps he would continue the kilatness of Zul? Hidayat’s arrival is very auspicious, he made me do rule of 5 for the first time, look at real spinal injuries as the status of the 3rd ambulance, and almost used a shaver to shave the person’s hair.

That’s all for this post! =D

Total number of calls: 1160
