Day 8: The last day in Australia

Brisbane has its own share of Australia markets, and we thought to visit some of the Sydney ones before heading home. The morning walk was joined by War as WL was meeting his friend for brunch. :)

Unlike the past few mornings, that was a really cold morning (12 to 14 deg) and not wearing jackets seemed to be a really YOLO idea... Anyway we first headed off to the Sydney Sustainable Market at a quieter area of the town. I think we were a bit too early, as quite a number of stalls were still setting up and there wasn't much food. =/ The alternative was to visit Paddington market, which we were still a bit early too.

What better way to spend time other than chilling in a café and avoiding the cold? =P

Hot chocolate and some apple turnover. Hmm delicious! Light and fluffy, though would say that the apple filling seems to be sweeter than the general ones sold in SG. Nevertheless it was a good treat!

The journey continues to Paddington market, which eventually turned out to be a slight disappointment as the market sells nice crafts and clothing instead of food. >.< I think it was my mistake as many guys did indeed sell the market as a craft market...

We went back to Paddy's Haymarket to double up on the nuts supplies, and explored the fresh fruits / vegetables section. That section usually closes a bit earlier as compared to the other areas in the building, and has a very Singapore supermarket feel!

Descriptions are written on papers / cardboard, with both English and Chinese names. The cleanliness and bricks design gave it a more atas feel though. Hmm maybe comparing it to SG's "The Marketplace" would be even closer. Prices are about the same, not too expensive!

Perhaps the most important objective (other than nuts) would be to announce the results of the bet which War, myself and PH made near the start of the Sydney trip. =P With WL visiting his friend, we took this chance to clear the results of the bet.

Proudly presenting the winners! Jeff lost. T.T Wa heng only bet the 70 cents Yeos drink sia. =P Ok la, everyone was happy that I lost the bet, which I think that is a good thing too. At the point of writing this post, WL still doesn't know what the bet was. XD

We also made a stop at a Korean shop to buy some stuff. PH was mentioning that I should at least practise the language with a Korean person. The Korean lady in the shop was speaking to me in Korean and I didn't really understand what she was saying...

제프: 죄송합지만 한국사람 아니에요.
여자: 그거 한국모자 인데요!
제프: 한국에서 샀어요.
어자: 그렇구나...

Jeff: Sorry, but I am not a Korean.
Lady: (Korean lady points at Jeff's cap) But that is a Korean cap!
Jeff: Yeah, I bought that in Korea.
Lady: Oh I see...

Think PH was pretty amused by the incident, and he passed the conversation. Niceeee!

1120 hrs: PH has wanted to try Australia Steaks ever since he got to Brisbane, and that was pushed all the way to the final meal due to many unforeseen circumstances. >.< The shop (I'm Angus) was located at Darling Harbour, and hence have a nice view of the waters.

The shop has a concept of an Express lunch at a slightly cheaper price than usual, but requires a top up of a few dollars during weekends. That's ok! I personally never been to a steakhouse except for Jack's place. >.< Not a really big fan of steaks, so yup took that opportunity to try out what people mean by a nice steak. :D

Behold the medium sirloin steak! $29 for express lunch, served with a choice of side (mashed potato), a glass of pineapple juice, and a top-up of $2 for mushroom sauce! ^^

The medium steak is not bad, though is not like a melt-in-mouth sensation. Think War / PH mentioned that Sirloin steak is nicer as it has a bit of fats, and there is some red portion inside. The mushroom sauce has some alcohol taste, and the mashed potato is great! :D Hmm well that was my opinion, apparently War and PH didn't find the taste to be that great. =/

WL came halfway throughout the lunch, and he looked really happy. Wonderful! One of the main objectives of Australia cleared. =P

This was taken by WL at Queen Victoria Building. WL captioned it personally as the Chamber of Secrets. I find this caption to be as humorous as a flock of cranes.

~~~~~
1300 hrs: Went back for a short rest at the accommodation facility, and everyone started shouting out the 3 Australian things they liked most throughout the trip. I think I answered emu and ghost tour? For the last one I gave "it was fun to hang out with you guys." Wapiang kena judged by everyone. -_-
After everyone gave a try to name the items, the realization became clear. The trip was fun because that was the travelling group. Actually there wasn't much done that was uniquely Australian. Really thankful this activity wasn't done the previous night, otherwise the mood confirm more emo. >.<
~~~~~

1330 hrs: We set off for the airport. SYD is a nice and clean area, and has many shops of snacks and items. A lot of snacks seemed to be taken from different countries (E.g. Singapore snacks, US chocolates, etc.)

Meat jerky, nuts, vegemite. Hmm. Some of the shops also sold games, perfect for WL's Switch.

WL was craving for a small snack, and everyone started to clear out their coins for the snack contribution. =P

Ham and cheese croissant, looks delicious!

Our boarding area. PH mentioned that QF1 is apparently a very large flight, as the boeing aircraft can take up to 2 levels of passengers. Ah that explains why at 5pm flight starts its boarding 45 minutes earlier. Cool!

~~~~~
This is our QF1 flight. Qantas, the spirit of Australia. :D PH mentioned that the cabin was very comfortable and had a lot of leg space as compared SQ / Jap / Korea airline planes. I guess maybe that is because Australians generally have a larger build and hence needed the space. But yup it is indeed comfortable!
Dinner. That is fish. Tasted decent!
Qantas offers some nice snacks too! This is hot chocolate (with a candy served inside) with an extra Lindor chocolate. Nice, smooth and the candy has a rose syrup taste. There were also passionfruit ice-cream (missed out as I fell asleep T.T) and vege pizza.
We reached SG at about 10pm. Originally wanted to have a supper at A&W, but there was too many people at Jewel. Went back home instead. :) Sharing a nice Qantas safety video before ending the post. Qantas has many other safety videos too, but I like this one the best. :)
Felt this is a very heartwarming clip even though I am not an Australian~ And with that ends a very nice trip with the F4. Thanks guys for such a wonderful experience, its really a pleasure to tour with you all~ :D
Shall we travel together again next time? :)
