Day 3: KL Exploration

Besides being a pseudo tour guide in Genting, SY had an idea of getting affordable and decent breakfast in KL. We went to Pudu ICC, which is a famous market selling traditional food, to start the day.

Front area of Pudu ICC

0900h: Pudu ICC is roughly divided into various sections, with some shops having their own seating areas [just like coffeeshops]. There was some crowd on a Friday morning, but thankfully we managed to get seats.

Traditional kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs and popiah

Yellow wine chicken pau. This is apparently famous?

Random cold drink to cool down the breakfast

The area that sells the chicken pau is quite far back in the market. There is one big seating area there with even more shops that sell rice, noodles, pancakes, etc. Very similar to SG hawker centers, except that its enclosed. Great place to visit for traditional MY food. :D

1000h: SY suggested that we went for a digestion walk before having a good lunch later. We visited the nearby Pudu Plaza, which looks like a really old shopping center with strong SG Beauty World vibes. Must be a traditional mall that existed very long ago. We were a bit early, and thus most shops were still closed. Didn't spend too much time there.

The Berjaya Times Square (BTS) on the other hand, is a much more atas shopping center. It looks much more modern and sells quite an amount of branded goods too. The christmas decorations were beautiful too. This place looks more suitable for young people. :P

Claw machines

BTS theme park

The theme park was closed in the morning, but woah it definitely looked fun for thrill seekers and kids. The roller coaster spanned a few floors (u could see the sharp incline on the right side of the theme park picture) and had quite a lot of curves. Another interesting point is that the roller coaster is built somewhere on the 5th floor, instead of on the ground floor. The amount of testing work must be intense. ><

Though we did not wait for the theme park to open, we had a bit of fun with the claw machines. Got 10RM worth of credits to try (1RM/try), but unfortunately I did not win anything. :(

1200h: SY recommended a famous roasted meat restaurant for lunch. Ref: https://guide.michelin.com/my/en/kuala-lumpur-region/kuala-lumpur/restaurant/wong-mei-kee

This restaurant opens only a few hours a day during lunchtime, and it is important to go there early to get seats. Although the restaurant opens at 12pm, food is usually not served until about 30+ minutes later. Customers could have some drinks while waiting though.

Roasted meat lunch <3

SY ordered a triple mix platter. The char siew is nice and sweet, while the roasted pork skin is very crispy, yet preserving the tenderness of the meat portion. :)

Insane crowd just 75 mins into their operation time

If one is in KL, give this shop a try!

1345h: We took a Grab to explore some places relating to MY / KL. First up being the Negara Museum of Malaysia. Its a standard museum with the history of MY, how the people lived in the past, and more significant periods such as the Japanese occupation and SG's separation from MY. The museum also offers temporary exhibits that features music and some figures which I didnt understood what they were.

Old tin machine. First built in 1938 and rebuilt in 1963.

A display of MY costumes?

Temporary music exhibit

Souvenir shop featuring models from various airlines

We also passed by the old and new railway stations in KL, which looked kind of similar to each other.

Since there was some time in the afternoon, we decided to check out a nearby Planetarium [via some strange walking routes]. A curious part of me wanted to know how is the KL version different from the Brisbane's Planetarium. XD

Stairs to the Planetarium

The Planetarium was really different from the one in Australia. One main thing was that besides showing the expected items (stars, planets, rockets, etc), it also shares chemistry related knowledge such as material decomposition and the effects on the environment. The second difference was that it seems to be more freestyle, where visitors could roam around and look at the exhibits of their choice. This is quite similar to the SG science center.

Planet simulation?

Mechanism of a rocket component

Ride in a space pod --- This goes in various angles and speeds

Imagine chemistry exams needing such level of details

Periodic table, planetarium version

Overall the Planetarium was quite interesting. I think it would be more interesting for families with kids as the place features activities and playground for kids to have a fun time. I swear that we were all very amused by the space pod rotating in all kinds of random directions instead of the actual content offered~

1645h: It started to rain , and thus we waited for quite a bit before a Grab driver fetched us to KLCC. The evening was chill as we walked around KLCC and ate Korean food for dinner.

Fried chicken dish in a Korean restaurant

For dinner, we had yangneom fried chicken with mozzarella cheese and fried rice. The cheese portion was quite generous and we had plenty of those to wrap the chicken pieces. :) If not for the larger amount of cheese, perhaps WJ and myself would be on fire as we had expected a non-spicy chicken, but we got served a level 2 spicy version instead. ><

Other than that, it's a really great evening, and closes a wonderful day 3 of doing MY-related activities. ^^
