NTU checkup

The jellyfish is back! A short post about my NTU's medical checkup, with JM! =D Initially, Tean was actually with us, but since he had a change of heart and decided to pursue his course at NUS, thus we were the only 2 left. =/

~~~~~
The short week is made even shorter with the half day off due to the afternoon checkup. JM reached JP at about 2.45pm (wearing office wear, and we set off to NTU via the 197 bus. Not very crowded, and hopefully it's that ideal for the 4 years to come! JM filled up his health declaration form, with a bit of help from me, and finished just in time before we alighted near the school of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
The journey up the hill isn't a very fun one, considering we weren't very good at going about the camps, and the guided maps aren't a really good guide as they showed buildings instead of routes. One way or another, we managed to get up to the medical center, and auspiciously late by 20 minutes. XD Since we passed by my future school building, why not take a look at it? The interior looks rather comfortable, a spiral staircase with cool colour furnishing, cool air-con, feels comfortable to study there with a cup of hot milo. :) That's awesome!
1530hrs
About 3 forms to fill in, and approx 1 hour of waiting time... -.-
Test 1: Height and Weight
Test 2: Eyesight test
For some reason, I have shrunk, gained weight, and maintained my perfect eyesight by being able to look at the bottom row of numbers. Lousy test. =/
We spent the rest of the hour chatting about our working lives, speculating sections of the medical checkup, other random nonsense and observing the people around us. There were some army officers, some lepak ones and others who were wearing office attire too! I played a bit of temple run 1, while JM looked at the kind of courses which the Physical and Mathematical Sciences offered and kinda realised that the topics looked very scary to study...
When they mean the queue number isn't called in sequence, they really mean that seriously! Our numbers were 189 and 190, and the numbers that flashed were either way too low, or just nice 191 and above. Is there supposed to be a different category or something? I have always thought that everybody is paying the same $30, unless you are studying a medicine field which requires $15 extra. Ah oh well. =/
1630hrs
Test 3: Blood Pressure
Test 4: Colour blindness
At last, our turn came. A rather old doctor took the BP, and tested colour blindness using the multi dots pictures. The 1st 2 readings were rather high! Something like 150+/90+, which I was kinda surprised, as it shouldn't really be the case. Until the 3rd reading, it became 130/60+. How the heck did the reading drop so suddenly? Whatever, if there's a normal reading I want it, now! :D
- Test 5: Urine test
Classic urine test, which JM laughed hardly when I forgot to pour my urine away. -.- Ok la, at least didn't over pee / pee on my hands / drink water to force pee out like some drama king. I wondered how come nobody tried to cum inside the cup and dip the test strip inside. =P
-Test 6: Xray on a bus!
Conducting X-ray inside a medical center is seriously too mainstream, thus NTU's medical center decided to host the chest X-ray test inside a mobile X-ray bus. It looks rather cool! The tail of the bus consisted of the X-ray controller, a computer for analysis, a table to put notes and a radio. The middle of the bus is actually a small room, with the X-ray camera, some clothings, random items, and an iphone being charged. -.-
I prefer this X-ray test over the one at CMPB. This one is much shorter, more comfortable and the machine isn't as noisy. The one in CMPB made me feel like I kena trapped onto something... The same cannot be described in JM's case. He took pretty long, and his 1st 2 X-rays seriously looked strange, even from a non-medical point of view! Thank goodness his 3rd X-ray is normal. :)
How about the blood test? Don't have leh!!! ^^
1700hrs
To be fair to JM, we proceeded to the engineering sector to have a look at how JM's biomolecular/chemical engineering building is like.
Pre-requisite: Fit for mountain climbing
It's seriously a long stairway up the engineering sector! The walk must be like 10 minutes or something, 15 if you actually tried to enjoy JM's cover of 'What makes you Beautiful' by One Direction, when we reached the top, a sensational feel of achievement overwhelmed us. =P Compared to the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the exterior of the engineering buildings looked much cooler, have more style and reminded me of shopping centers o.O. We didn't check out the interior though, the absence of people didn't look very welcoming...
JM's Chem and Biomolecular Engineering building is the best, it's under construction! Seems like that will come as a surprise for him in 2 months time!
Rested a bit before leaving NTU. Not many stalls were opened, thus we had a sweet snack instead of a proper dinner. Brownies and mango cream cakes, hmm... The brownies tasted rather normal, not as great as I thought, the mango on the other hand, proved its worth and pulled up the average score to a good pass! ^^ The mango's consistency is good, the sweetness is there, and definitely a distinct taste of mango fruit instead of a flavouring/syrup. 4 really small slices for $2.50, good for a sweet treat, but not a meal!
Since we're in a school, why not try a school question? :) I brought out the circle question which JL asked me as he was tutoring his gf's kid (not his kid though), and was stunned at that question. JM sort of gave up, and understood my solution/explanation after some movements here and there. Excellent!
1750hrs
We took the NTU shuttle bus to Pioneer Station. Wanted to go to Pioneer Mall / Gek Poh to eat Fu Xiang's curry / other delicacies. Perhaps it's just Jurong, or WL is building up a deflective raining shield, but once we walked out of the station, it rained super heavily in just a matter of seconds! You would have thought that the bright and beautiful sunset would be a perfect weather to go to the beach with someone you love, next second, it rained! -_-!!!
Ah oh well, there goes the Pioneer Mall plan, and we activated the Backup plan: West Mall. Actually wanted to go to JE to disturb the people who just finished work, but nah, lazy. XD Chicken Mcgrill salad for dinner, and the surprised look on JM's face is definitely worth it to crunch on the crispy lettuce.
JM: Sia la salad!
Jeff: Yeah.
JM: Wow. (Took some corn to try) Well, I can say that this corn, taste just like... corn!
Talked about tuition, the advantages and disadvantages of teaching for a long time, the awesome students and questions. While we're talking about the way too many easy questions in the maths syllabus, I shared the Vectors question I got from XT, and hey he got it in 16 minutes! :D Good job!
His flaming scorch burger or something like that tasted nothing like a spicy meat patty. I think it's more for a crispy taste? =P Unlike the other salad paradise outing with War and WL, I didn't add random stuff like powder or weird sauces to my salad. :)
West Mall's 1st level onwards didn't change much since the last time I visited it properly (not counting the one with Justin). The shops are generally still there, except that Kofu was auspiciously closed for that day only (pre-Vesak holiday?).
The basement, is a different story. The awesome childhood / studenthood treats of SweetTalk and the cookie stall became history as they were replaced by other food stalls, and the old Shop and Save is now replaced by Cold Storage. I somehow felt that there were more people patronising the basement shops compared to the past few years. Perhaps the existing shops have frequent promotions / regular customers or something. :)
Last part: Memories of past study books
Anybody remembered the good old vocabulary cloze? Where you have to fill in the blanks with a suitable word of your choice, it may be a grammar word, a noun, an item, something you have to infer from other parts of the passage or using common sense? 9 years later, we took a passage, and filled in the blanks with words which not only make sense, but in a very sad way.
JM: "I tomato you then you know!"
Yup, that's how awesome our English words are, until tomato became a verb. XD
==========
That's about it for the trip! A pity we didn't get to Ben and Jerry's for the 2nd 1/2 price sundae, but oh well, JM doesn't seem to be comfortable in office wear anyway. :)
