War 21st

MJ: "Jeff, did you do anything special for your 21st birthday? Your friends leh? My bf is holding a chalet to celebrate his 21st, and so 21st is supposed to be important right?"

Jeff: "O_O Yeah, an unusually large number of people hold parties during their 21st birthday."

The jellyfish is back! From Ah Boy to a man, War has finally turned 21! (Although the KFC aunty may still recognise him as a secondary school boy) Posting about his 21st birthday simple celebrations~ A simple salad bar dinner, and the Halloween trip @ ACM.

Or as WL would say: "81st". Legit. =P

25/10 (Fri)

To welcome War to the old age, 95.8FM held a real-life show/random item at Jem. Not really sure what that thing is, but 95.8FM (usually for listeners who are older) is definitely including War as an element to its set of listeners! What a great coincidence. :D

I didn't know that Swensens has a Salad Bar in the outlet. I think the outlet at Jem is supposed to be a more atas one, thus there are some extra features that are not seen at normal outlets. Since it's War's birthday, me and WL went according to his wishes and tried the salad bar feature. It comes with an additional price (machiam appetizier buffet) with an order of a main course.

Featuring a wide range of bite sized fruits and vegetables, side-kicked with cold delicious pasta and crispy wanton skins, topped with a delightful selection refreshing dressings completes the salad bowl perfectly. :) You did not see wrongly, there is FRIED wanton skin! Not sure what is that doing at the salad bar section, but that is a really useful too for parents to force their kids (WL) to eat their vegetables in order to enjoy the wanton skins and the potato chips.

"If you don't eat your vegetables, then you won't get to eat the fried stuff!"
Logically perfect sentence to maintain a healthy vegetable diet in children. ^^

Main courses:
War had a beef burger set.. That beef patty looks very thick!
WL had a Cajun chicken set. War thought that LJS one is nicer.
Jeff had a chicken burger set. Someone from the kitchen must have liked me or something, it feels like there is a double serving of meat in the burger! :D

I prefer the mushroom and cheese that went along though. The soft melted cheese tasted very nice with the bun. In addition to the (roasted?) wild mushrooms, I added some extra mushrooms from the salad bar, to the extent that it looked more like a mushroom burger than a chicken burger. Delicious! You see la, the salad bar contributes to additional toppings to a meal. I must have taken like 4 servings of salad to along with the main course. (loads of mushrooms XD)

Even though WL found my eating combination to be rather weird, War's plate had a fair share of weird food item too, to the extent that everybody forgotten about my spamming of mushrooms. Question: "What is a green edible thing, that has a starchy look, and is rather soft inside?"

War: Ah I don't know?
WL: It looks like a potato.
War: Is it? Hmm ya hor it looks like, it must be a potato.
WL: Yeah it is a potato.
(This continues for 10 minutes on why it should be a potato)
Jeff: Huh really potato meh? I take a look.

(After a few seconds)
Jeff: This thing has seeds! Cannot be a potato luh!
War: O_O Oh ya. It has seeds, it cannot be a potato.
WL: o.o! Ya hor, it has seeds! It cannot be a potato.

WL's theorem of potatoes states that anything that has seeds cannot be a potato.

We spent about 1.5 hours inside talking about uni life, projects, and humanities/arts subjects. Not sure if arts subject really makes sense in the real world (probably except Econs), the rest gives a feeling of going around in circles without producing anything useful in the end. Here are some examples in Philosophy.

Philosophy: If the plank of a ship is removed, would you still consider the ship to be the same ship?
Alternative: If every component of the ship is replaced, is the ship still the same ship?

At around 8+, we left the restaurant. A $5 voucher was issued to War not because it's his birthday, but because his Debit card had earned that voucher with some promotion. As usual, the Koi addicted went to buy his Koi, with lots of mention about a Koi cup displayed at the Koi counter. Not sure what the mention is for, esp. on his birthday. =P

With that, ends the evening dinner. Not sure where WL spent his money on... @_@

26/10 (Sat)

Halloween event: ACM after dark. WL has been suggesting to watch Insidious / do scary things (?) in that period of War's birthday. To add to the mood, I suggested to visit ACM to see how a museum would plan its decorations and events during the Halloween night. Sounds interesting?

Since it's only a day after War's birthday, his simple celebration continues in conjunction with the museum visit. :D

--

War wanted to watch a movie before the ACM trip. Well, if you just turned 21, then naturally you would want to watch a movie with a more advanced rating ya? =P The meeting time was set to be 1545hrs.

What Jeff wanted to watch: Escape Plan [*More like Escape from Insidious*]
What WL wanted to watch: Insidious

In order to escape the fate of watching any of these 2 movies, War was auspiciously late by half an hour (wao!). Intuition tells that it's just another random time which War has been late, upon further investigation, the conclusion that it's actually a plan to watch what War really wanted.

What War wanted to watch: Carrie O_O
Alamak War, since it's your birthday just name what you want la lol.

So while waiting in the MRT station, me and WL just watched the random crowd passing by. Some random guy was carrying this in Dhoby Gahut MRT station. According to WL, this is called a scythe.

Not really sure what a scythe is, until WL used an analogy.

---

This is how WL described a scythe.

---

This is what Jeff thought a scythe is after listening to WL. This is an axe, not a scythe.

-----

Just when I thought that I have successfully escaped Insidious (a horror movie), it turned out that Carrie is also in the horror genre, and with a NC16 rating. -_- Bo bian, gave War face (his birthday mah) and watched the movie. Didn't enjoy the movie, not because it is too scary, but because the storyline is just rather anyhow... I got the impression WL didn't like the movie too. The initial enthusiasm of WL getting to watch a horror movie almost made me believe that he liked Carrie. =P

(Sidenote: Doing calculus in a movie is fun)

Ajisen Ramen after the movie. I got myself some roasted pork meat ramen, warm soup and noodles, but still doesn't taste as nice as the one which JM and Tean brought me to. =/

How many times have you seen people washing their legs in a public toilet basin? Once. War and I found it weird, WL classified that as a norm. Hmm.

-------

At around 2030 hrs, we arrived at the Asian Civilisation Museum (not Ancient as described by WL). The vicinity outside the ACM sure produced very interesting (but not eerie) happenings.

1. Weird traffic lights
There's a very short stretch of road outside the Parliment House which has a traffic light with an unusually long pedestrian waiting time. Just as we thought that the green man would never appear (after like about 5 minutes), the traffic light changed. Aiya sian, almost made me believe that the traffic lights got problem.

2. Bunch of sneezing teenagers
So we are not the only group of early 20+ years old people who were sort of interested to visit the museum. There's a larger group of young people (looked like couples) who were intending to have a good experience / visit too.  The silence of the path was suddenly interrupted...

(Everybody walks quietly)
[Suddenly a guy sneezes]
Random girl: "EEEE! Eh fuck la! You very disgusting leh!"

I was definitely laughing at that response, that over-dramatic response overkills that '123 aiya sian'. =P Luckily it's not WL, otherwise 'heh-choo' doubles the effect. XD

-----

The ACM crowd turned out to be much larger than expected, with the majority consisting of families. Should have taken a photo of the crowd in front of the information counter, there must be a lucky draw / free gift booth until the whole foyer is almost full. ._. Luckily that was not the entrance route to the exhibits.

We went through the galleries in L2 and L3, looking at various ethnics / races / diff. times of costumes, gods, weapons, jewellery (there's some on the nose!), prayer mats, the character traits, etc... Kinda perfect for people who are interested in knowing a brief history / mention of many different cultures (SEA). :)

There's a thing about languages. How good are you in reading texts which contain a significant percentage of terms not common in everyday lives?

War reading Chinese texts (better in english): More than half the words mispronounced.
Jeff reading English texts (better in chinese): This read wrong, that also read wrong.
WL reading English texts (a bit of both): Pronounced an english text is a SUPER angmoh way! (Y)

War reading English texts: Perfect
Jeff reading Chinese texts: "Zhong Guo" made WL laughed without fail.
WL reading Chinese texts: Aiya sian.

Other interesting things

1. The real life characters are not exactly interesting, except for a random Mario! That one cute luh. =P
2. There's a text near the L2 toilet that mentioned something about ... aiya forgotten liao. If you think that's anyhow description to what I have seen, you can imagine that same format in the text, with an additional jialat translate text at the bottom. Best joke in the museum. :D
3. There's a Malay 'mini-house' on L3, describing various practices, and some including BUFFALO. I was almost tricked that there's sand in front of the mini-house.

Honestly, ACM isn't anywhere close to being scary / dark. The best halloween feature in the museum itself should be the colouring section for kids, but one look at the place and all thoughts of 'creepy' would be instantly vanish. Posters can be misleading, almost made me believe that ACM is going to be really scary...

What Jeff thought ACM after dark is: Dressed-up ppl scaring kids in between exhibitions, unlighted dark routes and people screaming as if they are on a roller coaster.
What ACM after dark is: Shining bright like a diamond.

Rating: Disappointing. =/

-------

Without watching the 'Shutter' movie that is at the outdoor area, we left ACM. Don't think anybody really enjoyed it, but ah oh well. We went to look at the mini-merlion (War got the number of merlions wrong), and made him believe that it is one of the Merlions featured. XD

WL's theory of Merlion: "A Merlion is considered a Merlion IF AND ONLY IF there is ONE AND ONLY ONE small Merlion."

Nothing else after that, everybody was kinda exhausted, so we poked WL's hard abs all the way till Jurong East. ~.~

=========

Here's wishing War happy 21st birthday! I bought him a mug, should have bought something much nicer. -.-
That's all for the outing!
