S16 outing total failure

“I usually don’t put inverted commas in the title, but when I do; it means something has gone wrong during that day.”

Yep, posting about the so-called class outing which was a total failure as nobody turned up, excluding War and WL of course. This is one of the reasons why I hate to organize big outings, nobody has any definite answer of whether they can turn up or not, or amazingly has very last minute reasons to be absent. =/

Best few reasons I like… =P

“I may be coming, not very sure, see how.”  (Awesome confirmation answer!)
“I don’t know army got anything or not.”  (I didn’t know army is so last minute?)
“Can you all find a place nearer to mine? It’s too far for me!” (The person has 3 hours to leave home.)

Initial plan: To play bowling (War even suggested 2 lanes), and go eat Seoul Garden / Fortune Cuisine buffet at Clementi.

What we really do: Play bowling, eat at Chili’s and watch a movie at JCube.

[Totally not going to elaborate on how we have waited for a lane even though I had reserved it]

Ok la, actually there isn’t much of a difference, except for the number of people and the dinner menu. If you ask me, actually I would prefer the final plan, it suits me more. So anyway, we played bowling at HTNS for a few hours. There’s a very large crowd and a rather long waiting list, but thankfully we didn’t have to wait THAT long as I had reserved for a lane beforehand. =/

JL should be quite ok in bowling, if not for the weird techniques he had tried out. WC simply threw the balls with no targets or strategies (well he looked like that), and got a decent score! Both only played 1 game due to time constraint. Felt rather sorry to have wasted their afternoon for no damn of reason… Sorry guys!!!

WL seemed very enthusiastic about the bowling score sheets, and recorded down everybody’s awesome scores. For some unknown reasons, WL decided to lose his virginity (who the heck said this?) to bowling and took on 2 games. For many bowlers, there would be skilled / favorite ways to aim a strike for every single frame, for others, it would be a ‘how many pins would fall’ kind of goal. If I were to describe how I, War, PH and WL bowl, perhaps it would be something like this.

PH (the professional one): To aim the gutter and curve to pin 1 at the last min.
War (the anyhow one): To see if the score is more cui than Jeff’s.
Jeff (another anyhow one): To see if the score is more cui than Warren’s.
WL (the one who lost his virginity): To PK all corners of the lane in every frame!

I remembered that in PJ, an archery expert did mention: “an archer who is systematically wrong in aiming is better than a random archer, as a person who has a systematic error can be trained to be a consistent archer who has perfect shots.” So likewise, WL must be a talent in bowling as he is VERY consistent in taking down the corners! I shall give 3 examples out of the wholesome lot of awesomeness.

Example 1
(WL hits only pin 7 on the 1st try, and then hits only pin 10 on the 2nd try, perfect example)

Example 2
(WL hits pins 7, 8,9,10 on the 1st try)
Jeff: WL ah, next one you just aim anywhere, you confirm gutter on the next try.
(WL gutters the 2nd try, since there isn’t any corner pins left)

Example 3
(WL hits pins 1 to 9 [amazingly], leaving only pin 10 on the 1st try)
Jeff: I go record the score’ 9 spare’ first, can save the trouble later.
WL: Anyhow only!
(WL spares on the 2nd try, saving Jeff the trouble to look at the screen for confirmation)

For some reason, after WL started to play, mine and Warren’s bowling balls started to curve towards the 2 corners, esp. the right side. The objective also changed, from the original ‘whose score is more cui’ to ‘scoring lower than WL is very malu’. Luckily WL didn’t strike or spare a lot; otherwise even PH may have to bang his head on the wall. =/ after knowing WL for quite long, nobody actually discovered his true potential, someone should give him a prize!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, the pictures I took from the score sheets. Nice right? Used with my normal phone. =P

Round 1:

As you can see, even with WC's anyhow throwing, it seems to be higher than my score for most of the times! Zul would agree with this, PH would agree with this, War would bet all his bed money on this.

Round 2:

This is the ever bowling score by WL, an auspicious 50 points! Strike in the 3rd frame, which is awesome. In case you are wondering how come there are so many '1', it is the PK corners which I have been mentioning in the above paragraphs.

Round 3:

Yup, everybody's score increased for this round, with the largest percentage increase by WL of 52%! A prize should be given to him!

---------------------------------------------------

Oh, the price per game is $3.30 on a weekend afternoon, excluding the 30 cents discount for HTNS members. Compared to Chevrons Jurong, not bad…! HTNS seemed to be a better place for bowling compared to CSC, unless if PH is bringing his bowling bag along. With this, concludes the 1st part of the outing. =P

<The part of purposely going to bastard ZK is skipped, it’s inhumane, refer to WL's blog for details>

*A few trivial contents along the way to Jcube.*

1.       Warren is enlightened by the fact that MFM sells chicken, just like KFC sells Fish Ole burger too.
2.       The lemon sweet (beginner level) is awesome!
3.       Hydro can do urban, but not the other way round.
4.       A water whirlpool isn’t called a cyclone.
5.       Since when guys care about homework, they play when they get home!

I didn’t have the mood for buffet, so War took us to Chili’s (recommended by him and his bunkmates). The restaurant is divided into 2 parts, which 1 was more suited for a family dinner setting with cozy sofas and tables like your normal western dining locations. The 2nd part is more for a bar setting where they were high tables and a drinks bar counter, just like the ones you would see on TV. Since I wanted to look at people falling down on the ice (WL agrees with it), we sat on the high chairs, with the back facing the drinks bar. =P

The thing I don’t like? The price. If I’m not wrong, the appetizers and salads start from 8 or 9 dollars, and the main courses (just like the ones elsewhere) cost an average of $20+! Although fountain drinks and flavored teas were of a free flow, they cost at least $5. Shall not mention about the alcoholic content beverages, I’m not sure about the market prices. =/ ah oh well, War may have mentioned it’s going to cost a bomb, but I think I forgot about it. I ordered a Texas Chicken burger set along with a free-flow traditional lemonade. This costs $25.68 in total (after the 7% GST). So since this is of such a high price, it should be good!

The waiters seemed to be VERY approachable to people. Usually, you will see waiters going “Sir, what can I help you with?” For this place, they will just rest their elbows on the table, look at you, and ask “So how? Have you thought of your order?” Power sia!

While waiting for our food to be served, I and WL looked at the checkered table and somehow decided to play checkers with the sugar packets. (War went to the toilet repeatedly) Well, it was rather easy, until 1 each of our pieces reached the end and we had to ‘promote’ the pieces. Just as I was deciding whether to use the ketchup bottle for a substitute or to switch the side of the packet to indicate the promotion, the waiter came to our table…

“EH! WALAO MY SUGAR SIA! You guys better put them back nicely! Don’t like that play la…”

Yep, it is a rather rare sight to see 2 bored teenagers / young adults playing with sugar packets, but you must simply compliment the creativity! Someone should give the waiter a prize for his awesome reaction!

It’s not long before the food arrived at our table. Looking at the food, it’s simply a bigger burger with lettuce, tomatoes and onions, cheese, and yup the Texas chicken served with larger natural cut fries. To be honest, the nicest item is actually the toasted bun of the burger. The bun has some honey mustard added on to it, toasted with a soft texture on the inside while crispy on the outside. Delicious! Nothing to comment for the fries and vegetables. The lemonade tasted all right! Warren didn’t really like it as he rated it as rather sour, compared to his strawberry lemonade. His strawberry lemonade tasted ok… I didn’t really like it though; it doesn’t seem to be a good combination.

The Texas chicken is rather disappointing. It’s just like eating a full chicken breast meat that isn’t really tender and doesn’t go well with the bread and other items. Even LJS morning Texas chicken is more tender… Ah oh well, not everything in this world is nice.

Mine and WL’s comments are around the same, we’re better off eating at EwF for less than half the price. For me, unless you want a bite to go along while drinking quality alcohol with your friends, don’t bother patronizing, not really worth the prize. Hope the alcohol or other dishes make up for its burger downside though! If Warren recommended this place, there must be something awesome which I didn’t try, but nah.

We, are never, ever, ever, coming back forever! You go shout to your friends, shout to my friends, shout to me…! Super modified Taylor Swift song chorus.

The view of the ice-skaters sort of made up for the dinner. Some were simply awesome, especially the crew! The swiftness, the sharp turns, the emergency stops, cool! Some small kids were rather good too, skating at a decent speed, speeding past adults who were afraid to fall (someone like me), looking at couples in love and falling down together. The penguins are seriously very cute! Although they served as aids to ice-skate learning, the way the small kids hold them and walk with their skates sort of make them look like waddling with the penguins. Wahaha~ its $10 per 2 hours, for kids below 1.2m, with no giraffe versions!

What’s the name of the Chinese movie? It’s a really anyhow movie! The storyline is rather nice, the animation is rather cool, and the people chosen could act well. It’s just that the humor behind it (like the role-playing game, HP bars, and the random Chinese comical font words) sounds like the kind of things I would add in a serious situation to make the whole scene look very stupid… There’s a part 2 at the end of October, perhaps I should watch it one day! Just imagine if the movie has Gangnam style added at the credits. =P

With that concludes the end of an auspicious class outing. WL suggested the K-box outing for SD/SOH in future, should plan it soon if people are agreeable to it, after my junior sorts of stabilize though! If not I will be saying, “If you don’t learn by the next duty”, and sing “I’ll hang you up and pull you down!!!”

Yea, the kind of thing you would expect in that Chinese movie, anyhow humor. =D
